matte painting with lava

This was my first time ever doing the whole matte painting then, and all in all, it was pretty fun. The first image is what we were given in class and our assignment was to add a bit more sky and add lava to the plate and make it all believable. The 2nd image is my work after the first week and the first critique, and the last image is the final that I turned in.

Ball render

I hadn't done one of these little lighting studies in a while, so I thought I'd give it a go. These each took about 15 mins, the first one is just value, and the second one I went for color and used a texture brush to try and give it a painter like quality.

Corel Painter tests

I just got Corel Painter 11 the other day. so I've been playing around a little; this being the first time I've ever used the program. I like it so far, there are a few brushes like the oil pastels and artist oils that I like, but a lot of the brushes seem kind of gimmicky. Any-who, heres the a couple quick paintings. the bottom one is only using a pastel brush, and the top only uses one artist oil brush.

Arthairstory backgrounds

I was lead background and layout artist for the Art Institutes new 2d production "ArtHairstory." This is the establishing shot for the short. The ruffs were done by my friend Karlie and I, the final clean-up was done by Karlie, the tonal study and final colors were done by me. All the line work and ruffs were sketched out on paper, then painted in photoshop.
